About Fernwood Resort, Big Sur, California

Fernwood Resort was established sometime in the 1930s as the “Redwood Lodge” and has been the friendliest business in Big Sur ever since. We are located in the heart of the Big Sur Valley alongside the meandering Big Sur River. Being adjacent to Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, there is easy access to hiking trails and epic views. Fernwood is an all-purpose facility featuring a 12-unit roadside Motel, Forest and Meadow View Cabins, the Tavern Bar & Grill, the charming General Store & Espresso Bar and a 60-unit Campground located in a Coastal Redwood forest. We can accommodate RVs in our campground up to 30′ and also feature Tent Cabins located on the banks of the river and Adventure Tents for our glamping customers.

The Big Sur River & Swimming Hole – Enjoy a lazy summertime float in the Big Sur River.

Fernwood Grill: A popular lunch and dinner location serving a diverse array of dishes and pizzas to complement the variety of high-quality beer and mixed drinks. We want you to come in and make yourself at home! The back deck offers a comfortable setting to eat lunch and dinner or just hang out under the enormous redwood trees and relax.
Fernwood Tavern: A popular local watering hole built in the traditional Big Sur style with redwood timbers. Fernwood’s homespun atmosphere and live entertainment attracts a variety of locals and tourists, making for some very entertaining evenings.
Yoga Stage and Grass Area– perfect for sunbathing and star gazing.

See our Calendar of Events page for weekend music, festivals and events. Live entertainment is usually Saturday nights beginning from 9:30pm- 1am. We also host spring and fall music festivals in the campground.
General Store: Find camping supplies, souvenirs, beer & wine and a little bit of just about anything you could think of. Come on in if you’re looking for a road snack, grocery essentials, ice cold beer, wood or ice or information on local hikes and sights. If you forgot something… We probably have it!
Espresso Bar: Featuring Carmel Valley Roasting company coffee and espresso drinks.

Ice Cream Bar: Scooped delicious Lappert’s ice cream.

LOCATION

Fernwood Campground conveniently borders Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park for easy access to local hiking and offers a great winter camping experience.

Big Sur is blessed with five State Parks, a State Reserve and Los Padres National Forest, each with unique hiking trails. You'll find beach hiking, redwood canyon hikes, river hiking and the Buzzard’s Roost trail accessible from our campground. Learn more here.
